Impatiently Waiting

October 3, 2017

Have you ever had those times when your patience is waning? You’re waiting for something, desiring for something, but it seems like it’s taking forever?

Me too.

Recently, as I studied the topic of patience I found something very interesting. The deeper meaning of the word patience is, “to continue to be present.” Think about that for a moment - to continue to be present.

Oftentimes as we wait…and wait…and wait…we live in the future, overlooking the blessings and beauty of today. We often grumble and complain when things are not happening as fast as we want. We feel frustrated, aggravated, and our mouths say so. Impatience sets in and murmuring begins.

What is the antidote for impatience? I believe it’s gratitude. It’s hard to grumble and complain when the heart, mind and mouth are filled with thanksgiving. It’s easier to be impatient than to be grateful but deep appreciation is what the Lord desires.

1 Thessalonians 5:18, “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

Notice what the scripture says; “give thanks; for this is the will of God.” In every stage, trial, and waiting process the Lord requires a heart of gratitude. It takes a conscious effort to be grateful when feeling weary and impatient, but God takes notice and is pleased.

So, while we wait (and boy is it hard), let’s remind ourselves to be “present.” Let’s choose to notice the blessings we do have at this moment, while joyfully anticipating answers to come.

Romans 12:12, “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
